Imagine,.. a miraculous online world inhabited by strange creatures. They are media monsters, who feed themselves with signs, sounds and images. The media monsters grow, learn, have fun, get in trouble and are not afraid of anything,……or are they?
This is the start of Monstermedia, a media-educational learnign environment for students in the age of 11-12,. Monstermedia stimulates the media consciousness of children.
The child as a media consumer and producer
Children learn about history and the influence of media on our society as well as their own position in this. From this perspective, children are not only seen as media consumers, but also as active media producers. Students adopt alone or in pairs a little monster, by using the internet they raise up the monster to possibly become a Topmonster, the boss in the online world of Mediana. These mediamonsters will explore media history, and grow by answering questions and fulfilling missions.
Pop UP Young children are full of fantasy and imagination. They can listen to stories in such a way that they become part of it. The interactive theatre installation Pop UP creates a multimedia experience for young children of 2-6 years of age, in which they can place their first theatrical steps in life.
Creativie Learning Lab developed Sand 2.0 in 2009. Using interactive whiteboard technology and a beamer everyone can create an interactive sandbox. Dutch teachers can download the manual for free from this site.
